The renovation of an existing 1960s penthouse was to be chic, stylish and feminine. Inspired by the client’s interest in fashion, the kitchen millwork and layout is reminiscent of a generous, well-appointed, walk-in closet. Fixtures and appliances were selected for their accessory-like quality, elevating the space beyond pure utilitarianism. The glossy surfaces of marble, mirror and glass complete the jewel-box feel. The apartment’s expansive sky view drove the choice of color; the ethereal pale blue, with a hint of lavender, appears throughout the penthouse on all the walls, ceilings, trim and millwork. Other materials were selected, including the dark wood floor and book-matched marble backsplash, to ground the space visually, with an earthy elegance.
