Drawing inspiration from modern Japanese design, Hikari House approaches residential architecture through simplicity, honest materials, and an abundance of natural light, creating a calm atmosphere that balances openness with privacy. Every detail contributes to a clean, contemporary aesthetic while fostering a quiet sense of luxury throughout the home.
Centred around an open, connected living space, the double-height living area and kitchen form the social heart of the home. Designed to encourage gathering, the architecture facilitates hosting and everyday moments of connection that were central to the clients’ vision. Reflecting the family’s active lifestyle, a dedicated gymnasium is seamlessly integrated into the home, extending the project’s emphasis on wellness beyond the shared living spaces. A central three-storey lightwell, anchored by an open staircase, draws natural light deep into the floorplate, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow while unifying the homes three levels. Natural elements are thoughtfully integrated throughout, with a full-size tree rising through the stairwell, and interior vegetation enriching the atmosphere.
Maximizing southern light and preserving neighbourhood views were key priorities, enhancing both openness and comfort. Carefully detailed louvers provide privacy on the exterior without compromising daylight, while frosted glass softens the transition between public and private spaces inside, revealing only silhouettes and diffused light.
The result is a serene residence where thoughtful detailing, natural materials and a clean architectural language come together to create a welcoming and timeless atmosphere that celebrates wellness, community, and a lasting connection to nature.
